Fundraising Tips

Identifying Ideal STOCK GIFT PROSPECTS

In our last Tip Tuesday post, you learned that gifts of appreciated securities benefit both the donor and your nonprofit.  We also gave you tips on how you can increase your donors’ stock giving through marketing and personal contact.  THIS week, learn the common characteristics of great stock gift prospects.

4 CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TYPICAL STOCK DONOR

  1. Age: Stock donors were usually in their 50s, 60s, or 70s—-about 20% of them are retired. Keep in mind that, by increasing awareness of the benefits of stock giving through your marketing efforts, you may attract younger investors as well.

  2. Gender: Male stock donors outnumber females 3 to 1.

  3. Wealth: Stock donors have a high net-worth or an upper-middle-class income.

  4. Location: Stock donors are usually local to the organizations they support.

Through training, marketing, & personal conversations, you’ll see an increase in stock gifts to your nonprofit.
